I’ve been getting into web development these past few months, w/ html, php, mysql, javascript so far. I’d like to start developing on a linux system though, as I’ve currently only had experience doing it on windows. Any recommendations for a good distro geared toward development/servers?

Thanks!

There is more than one way to answer that question–but if you look around on the Internet, you will see that many sites are hosted on Apache running on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL). For this reason, I would probably use CentOS as a development platform–it’s RHEL re-compiled without the Red Hat trademarks, but it’s otherwise identical. Real-world experience with CentOS would give you useful experience when you encounter RHEL in the wild.

I am running a business of web design and development in India and want to make long term relationship with web design and development companies in USA. How to proceed. Please suggest some idea.

You can check these guys out http://www.cookevillewebdesigns.com/
But what is your resonfor the relationship?

Looking to move to near Dallas, TX. How is the job market in the web development industry? What programming languages are prominent? What is the salary range for senior level web developer? Are web developers in high demand in Texas?

Even in the face of a weak economy, IT confidence and paychecks haven’t taken a major hit.

It wasn’t exactly Christmas in July for IT workers around the world, but with a number of new surveys pointing out that the tech job market remains in fairly solid shape, it qualified as at least an early Thanksgiving.

Ok, I live in Ny and wanna learn web development.
In that course i would like to have some elements of business, physics, electronics(Circuits, resistors), graphic designing and etc. I really don’t care what is going on inside computer. Like 2 or three courses would be fine. But not to crazy.

Also should I major in computer science or specifically in web dev.

There is generally no major in Web development. Computer science is the standard.

Good schools for computer science include NYU, Holy Cross, BC, BU.

Which is the most popular software for web development? Like what big Web development companies use to develop their websites? Dreamweaver? I have Visual Stuidio.Net but I feel that bulding a website using it is very complicated and not user friendly, what do you think? What also your recommendation for basic webdevelopment software? I will create only Html files and might embed some flash files inside.

While Dreamweaver seems to be the choice of professionals, personally for me it is too expensive as I do not do web design for a living. I use HTML-Kit which is free. It is best that you know html coding but it is very easy to use and tailor to your needs after a short time spent learning the program. It is found at http://www.html-kit.com There is a built in ftp program, a code checker by the name of Tidy, one click access to validation sites for code checking. And it puts no junk unnecessary code in your documents as Front Page does.

For wysiwyg, another highly recommended free program is nvu. Found where else but at http://www.nvu.com
