The main thing everyone should know is that working as a graphic designer has very little to do with ‘creative’ design. All the years of ‘training’ are a waste of time. Most of the time you will only encounter complete fools on a powertrip. As this video testifies – the reality is a bland world full of bland people who don’t want YOUR ideas. They want THEIR predicable tosh made to look ‘pretty’. Expect to work hours of UNPAID overtime. It’s a soulless occupation. You know exactly what I mean.

while you are in school, the AIGA is not too important in terms of academic success; however, it is very helpful when trying to network with working professionals.
When you graduate you should be a member of the AIGA.
Go to the AIGA workshops and stuff, i have found it really useful.
