Okay i was thinking about being a web page designer for a career and I was just wondering what kind of college degrees or training does it usually require……no one in my family has been to college so im kinda clueless about what i would need for something like that…and i was just wondering if anyone had any info about it..!!! Thanks!!
Tiffany,
Web design majors usually are not called web design classes. This is because most college-educated web designers are also taught other skills such as kiosk design, flash design and any other type of design that involves interactive graphics usage. A collegiate level web design program will likely go under names like;
Digital Media, Internet professional, multimedia design ,interactive media, Visual Communications, New Media, etc.
You should go to a 4 year institution and get a bachelors because most corporate jobs require degrees and becuase the electives and non-core courses that accompany getting a 4 year degree will make you a well-rounded person and seperate you from the 1 year web person that took a couple of online classes and is now calling themselves a web designer. Good Luck!
You could go for a BS degree in computer science, but then it would qualify you for many different things besides being a webdesigner. With webdesign all you really need is some basic knowledge of graphics programs and networking knowledge, and so you could learn it all yourself. If you are going to work for a company then college is mandatory.

The city college in my area offers a class or two on the basics. Check out your city college or a city college near you.

There are three choices for you to choose from to go to school to be a web designer. There are some school that actually have a major called web page design. Another option is to dual major in graphic design and computer programming (hard!) The last option I can think of is to major in graphic design or digital art and teach yourself HTML. Then you will have the college degree and the know-how to manipulate web pages. Good luck!
