Can I do just as good with a certificate as i can a degree in website design? How can I become a very successfull freelancer in website design? What are an excellent site that are 100% to find freelance website design work?

It all depends on your business, for instance my specialty is funeral ceremonial.
Working at a funeral home part-time as a greeter until I graduate high school and go to mortuary science.

Anyhow, you don’t want a funeral home’s website too dark or eerie, it has to be light, tranquil and have warm (not bright nor dark) colors. It has to be elegant yet simple.

So look at your business, analyze what you need to draw in people’s attention and use that as a guide, look for website designers for a fair price, they can help!

No. Certificates might help, but the real thing you need to do is prove you know your stuff.

Design a website for yourself showcasing examples of your work (showing off templates, clients, etc).

For a designer ’seeing’ what you can do is absolutely essential. But you should also make sure you have all your skills listed (coding languages you know well: HTML, Flash, PHP, etc — don’t lie if you don’t know something! However, it is fair to say that you recognize/can work with some stuff but are an ‘expert’ at others. List expertise first.)

Include some information about your personality (Where are you located? How much work have you done? Do you like a casual or professional correspondence? Can you get along with other types of personalities?).

What is your policy for customization and revision? This is a stickler in website design as clients will say ‘I don’t care’ upfront and then ask for revision after revision after revision. What is your process? (flat fee for project + one revision + hourly rate for additional revisions?)

What are your rates more generally? You might have a variety depending on the project, but you should know exactly what they are.

Do you do any work with widgets and things of that nature? Do you make blogs? Can you hack Wordpress templates? Do you work with ecommerce? Shopping carts? Site Search bars? Flash? 3D design?

    What about servers, hosting, FTP?

Are you familiar with SEO? (important for business sites at the least–the basics are easy to grasp so learn it. Otherwise, it will have to be redone later. For example, Flash is terrible in search, unless it is a small part of the page)

Once your website is up (this is your portfolio/resume) get someone to edit the copy and help you sell your skills verbally.

Then you need to bring in work. Start by selling to people you know and asking for referrals. Post ads on craigslist jobs and those freelance sites. Set up a Linked-in. etc. Always link back to your website.

Best way is to learn practically …while working as its proven thing that no degree/certificate guarantees you will be good at those fields unless you really had hands on experience with those
    technologies.

My advice to you would be..
    1) Think beyond Web designing ,html-flash aint just enough in todays world of rich internet applications
recommend you to learn PHP,rich internet tools as by the time you will learn that you need something dynamic as the client need those things (here just web desgning skills aint good enough)
you will need something serverside/dynamic .

    2) Keep abreast with latest trends in dev world if you find anything useful and advanced take it and implement it in your projects(Is actually the best way to learn new tech.)

    3) If you plan to be freelancing business then Open source is your bread earner ,you should be aware of what are the advanced/cost effective technologies available today. e.g. PHP /Mysql would rather give more profits then using .Net technologies which will have overhead of expensive web hosting and all those integration cost .Closed source technology in Freelancing might eventually
lead your clients to get baffled about the cost of the set up.

    Hope this resolves your issues
    Cheers:)

The zend PHP developer certification looks pretty nice.
Adobe also offers certifications. Those look nice.

The bottom line is however, your portfolio.
It is a combination of that and your price when getting jobs.

Have you got a agency site? Even a great online resume?
You need something to showcase that portfolio, which is the actually important part.

    yo.

One great way is to build yourself a really strong online portfolio that shows people the quality of the work you can do. Then promote that site on various forums.
